GRADING CRITERIA:

The final grade will be based upon (a grading scale is posted on instructor's website):

Exams/Quizzes

Exams are given on a computerized testing system. You MUST have a PIN number (comes with textbook) to access this system. A practice test will be available from class time to 11:45pm on the class day before the test. There are no make-up exams given. For the final exam, you will be allowed to retake your lowest scored exam.

For Powerpoint, you will be required to complete a presentation. The URL containing therequirements for this presentation will be given in class.

Homework/Lab Assignments

All assignments have a due date. Late assignments will not be accepted after the established due date. In case of illness or any other reason for missing class, please have someone turn in your work by the due date.

Participation

Clearly, you must participate in class if you are going to share your ideas with others. There is no need to contribute in every class. Some of the best contributors are those who have participated in only a few of the class discussions. However, their contributions were insightful and persuasive. The issue is one of quality and not quantity.

Presentation

All presentation requirements are posted on instructor's website.

CELL PHONES/TAPE RECORDERS/ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM:

Students are required to turn off cell phones (blackberries, etc.) in class and may not use recording devices, unless the student has a documented disability which permits recording, or permission of the course instructor. A student's refusal to turn off a cell phone (blackberry, etc.) will be cause for dismissal from class. In addition, use of ANY electronic devices (for text messaging, listening to MP3 players, inappropriate use of a laptop, etc.) which disrupt class will also be cause for dismissal from that class.

Cell phones must be put of silent ring (vibrate). You may leave class to answer a call. During an exam, NO cell phones are allowed. PLEASE NOTE: The first time you violate the above policy, I will assume it was a memory lapse. The second time, you will be dismissed from class, for the semester.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

A portion of your grade will be based on your attendance. Mandatory attendance is required for presentation days and test days. You will be notified in advance of these days so that you can plan accordingly. There are no make-up exams. You will lose a letter grade off of your overall class grade for missing a presentation day. Also, during presentation days, if you decide to come to class and leave during class with returning within a reasonable amount of time, you will lose ½ a letter grade off of your overall class grade.

Any handouts will only be available at class time. If your are absent, please get a copy from a classmate.

ACADEMIC HONESTY:

Cheating (including plagarizing) on quizzes, exams, or assignments will be met with penalties ranging in severity from a grade of "0" for the work involved to a grade of "F" for the course and possible suspension from the college. Please be aware that if multiple programs are the same, each person will recieve an irreversible grade of "0" for that program.

STUDENT CONDUCT IN THE CLASSROOM:

The instructor in the classroom and in conference will encourage free discussion, inquiry and expression. Student performance will be evaluated wholly on an academic basis, not on opinions or political ideas unrelated to academic standards. However, in instances where a student does not comply with the Code of Student Behavior or with an instructor's reasonable conduct expectations in the classroom, such non-compliance can affect the student's evaluation and be cause for permanent removal from class or dismissal from College.

NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION LAW - ABSENCES FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS:

Section 224-A allows a student to be excused from any examination or study or work requirements because of religious holidays. Each student must notify the instructor in advance so that an equivalent opportunity to make up any examination, study or work requirements he or she may have missed because of such absence may be given.

INCLEMENT WEATHER:

SUNY Delhi is a residential campus and stays open unless the governor closes the College. Simply stated, class will rarely be cancelled.

ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES:

Reasonable accommodations will be provided to qualified students with documented disabilities. If you have a disability requiring accommodations in any class, contact and meet with the Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities. The office is in the Resnick Learning Center in Bush Hall and the office number is 746-4593. Your request for accommodation will be discussed and if determined to be reasonable, you will be provided with the verification letter that must be returned to your course instructor.

INTERNET/COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS:

This class will be using Microsoft Office 2007. If you do not have this software, it is available on the computers in the Technology Center. You will be able to complete any assignments there. Please check their door for hours.

EMAIL:

You will be expected to access your college e-mail account. To access WebMail, go to the SUNY Delhi homepage (www.delhi.edu). Under Current Student Resources, select Information Systems. Select the WebMail link on the left and log in.

Please note that for homework assignments you must use an outside e-mail address and submit your assignments as attachments to lynettesmith@gmail.com.

SAFETY POLICY:

Please refer to your student handbook.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY:

If a faculty member discovers that a student has committed an academic integrity violation that warrants a sanction beyond a verbal warning, such as cheating or plagiarizing, the procedures outlined in the Academic Integrity Policy will be followed. It is located at http://www.delhi.edu/academics/provost/academicintegritypolicy.asp
